New Student FAQ’s

At Giving Tree Yoga and Wellness, we believe that yoga should be done more than just occasionally.  A regular practice of yoga builds concentration and strengthens willpower, making it easier to practice the next time.  Consistency is key!
Create a well balanced weekly yoga practice by engaging in the many styles of yoga and wonderful instructors here at GTY&W. 

Do I have to register for classes in advance?

We advise that all students pre-register on Mind-body to ensure a spot for class.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive a few minutes before class begins to ensure time to get settled and to fill out any necessary paperwork.
If you arrive just as class is beginning, enter quickly and quietly.  Doors are locked within 5 minutes of class start time and late arrivals may not be accommodated.

What if I am a beginner? 

If this is your first class or you are still new to yoga, we encourage you to arrive a few minutes early to introduce yourself to your teacher.

What class should I take?

Almost all of our classes welcome beginners.  Please check the web site with class descriptions or call us with any questions that you may have.
GTY&W Advisors are available to help you find the best class fit for you.

Should I eat before class?

It is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach or at least 2 1/2 hours after eating.  Please drink plenty of water before and after your class. 

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in and with little restriction around the waist and the chest is best.
Layers are nice for cooler weather months.
We have a changing space available*
Please no perfume or strong scents.

Do I wear my socks and my shoes?

Shoes will be left in the reception area.
We advise a sock-free practice for safety.
You are welcomed to bring your socks into the practice space for warm up and sivasana (final resting pose and meditation).

What should I bring?

Please bring a yoga mat and a water bottle if you would like.  We have mats and yoga props available for use during classes.
